the top 3 lash tips for the holidays

Can you believe it's already November? It's hard to believe that in less than two months, it will be a new year!

I have a theory. Have you ever noticed that none of our clocks are in sync? The clock on my car remote, the microwave, the stove... all of them get set at the exact same time but for some reason, they never stay in sync.

I'm convinced that whoever controls time has sped it up just enough that we don't notice. I wouldn't be surprised if we were still in 2019. Lol. But enough of my crazy conspiracy theories.

Thanksgiving is approaching in just a few weeks and for many lash wearers, it means family gatherings, feasting and creating wonderful memories with friends and family.

It also means many of you will be spending more time in the kitchen than usual which is partly why I am writing this article.

There are a few things I notice every year around this time and before you experience any of them, I want to make sure you're prepared and know how to care for your lashes this holiday season. Here’s a quick list of the common things I see around Thanksgiving.

CRINKLY LASHES / LASHES LOSING THEIR CURL

Sweet potato pie is a staple in my home for Thanksgiving. I have a secret recipe and have become known among friends and family as the go to person for sweet potato pies. Because of this, every year for Thanksgiving, my oven is put to use far more than it is throughout the year. I find myself putting pies in the oven and taking them out for days and days at a time.

This may also be the case for you. If you're the person who cooks for your loved ones, you may find yourself spending a lot of time with your face in or near a hot oven.

If you’ve been following me for a little while, you know that heat and lash extensions are just not compatible. Lash extensions are made of a synthetic PBT material which is sensitive to heat. Once exposed to high temperatures, they can lose their curl or begin to melt and crinkle.

POOR LASH RETENTION

In addition to heat causing lash extensions to crinkle or lose their curl, heat is also an element that can cause lash extensions to shed prematurely. When the adhesive used to apply your lash extensions is raised above a certain temperature, it weakens the adhesives effectiveness, causing it to lose it’s grip to your lashes. Because of this, lash wearers that spend more time baking during the holidays may notice their lash extensions shed more and faster than usual.

Not to mention, working in the kitchen and having your head in a hot oven more often than usual can cause you to sweat. If you’ve been

So what can you do to avoid these challenges during the holiday season?

KEEP YOUR LASH EXTENSIONS CLEAN

The first and most important thing you can do to help preserve your lash extensions and keep them looking great is to follow daily aftercare instructions which includes washing your lashes using a lash extension friendly, oil free cleanser in the morning and at night. What this does is it removes excess oil from your lashes that can cause them to shed prematurely. The simplest step to preserving your lash extensions is to keep them clean.

ALLOW HEAT TO ESCAPE THE OVEN

Next, when using the oven, before leaning in to put food in or take food out, open the oven door and allow the heat to escape first and then then lean your head in quickly to take food out. If you lean in while opening the oven door, you’ll feel a gust of heat escaping and that surge of heat can immediately cause your lashes to melt. By allowing the heat to escape first, it’s less likely you’ll experience lash loss.

STAY ON SCHEDULE

And finally, stay on schedule with your touch up appointments. If you’re baking more often, you may need to come in sooner for your touch up appointment but typically as long as you schedule your touch ups every 3 weeks if you’re wearing the Everyday Set or every 4 weeks for the Posh or Luxe Volume Sets, your lashes should be ok.

If you’re traveling and can’t stay on your regular schedule, you may need to add a little more time to your touch up appointment. To be considered a touch up, you must have at least 50% of your lash extensions remaining. If you come in with less than that, I’ll do the best that I can in the scheduled time but know that quality takes time so I never rush while working on your lashes.

If you come in with less extensions on, your lashes may not be as full as they could be within the standard scheduled time. If you think you need more time, simply add 30 minutes or an hour when scheduling your appointment to ensure your lashes look flawless.

I hope this helps and hey, just so you know, I loooooovvveeee snickerdoodles. Just saying. :)
