How to Care for Your Lashes When Pollen Counts are High

A few days ago, I went to visit a friend, and when I came back outside, It was like something out of a winter wonderland….except it wasn’t snowing, it was sprinkling pollen! My car was covered in a fine yellow dust, and it made me thing about how many of us are dealing with high pollen counts right now in the Tri-Valley area. For those of you with allergies, this can be an especially challenging time - and it can impact your lash extensions too!

Here’s a little refresher on how to care for your lash extensions when pollen counts are high and some tips to keep your eyes comfortable during allergy season.

Don’t Rub Your eyes

I know it can be tempting when your eyes are itchy, but rubbing them ca cause friction that makes your lash extensions shed prematurely. Even worse, rubbing can pull out your natural lashes from the follicle, which can lead to potential damage or even permanent lash loss over time. Try avoiding rubbing your eyes, and instead, use a cold compress tto sooth any irritation.

Clean Your Lashes More Often

If you’re experiencing irritation or discomfort, it’s likely due to pollen particles getting trapped in your lashes. Remember, our eyelashes are designed to catch dust, debris, and pollen to protect our eyes. But when pollen counts are high, your lashes will inevitably catch more of it. To avoid further irritation try washing your lashes more frequently with a gentle, lash-safe cleanser like Cloud Bath. This will help remove any pollen and keep your eyes feeling fresh.

Understanding the Role of Your Lashes

Your natural lashes serve as a protective barrier for your eyes, catching debris like pollen to prevent it from getting into your eyes. When pollen counts are high, your lashes work overtime, which can cause them to accumulate more particles than usual. This is why keeping them clean is so important - it helps maintain the health of both your natural lashes and extensions while keeping your eyes comfortable.

By following these simple steps, you can help ensure your lash extensions stay beautiful and your eyes feel comfortable, even when pollen levels are through the roof. As always, if you have any questions or need advice on lash care, feel free to reach out!
